About Yoga Tirth

Yoga Tirth – A Safe Space for Inner Journey

At Yoga Tirth, we believe that Yoga is the Science of Life. It is a fully integrated practice which affects all aspects of human life. As an ancient science, Yoga provides a proven way that systematically leads to a point where you can express your full potential on all levels. It is not necessary to have anything other than a willingness to practise. Practise Yoga and you will find that it can lead to a state of being where you can live in harmony with yourself, your environment and those around you.

The name “Tirth” is derived from the Sanskrit word Tīrtha, meaning a sacred crossing point— a place where the physical meets the spiritual, where the soul begins its journey from the mundane toward the divine. Just as rivers meet the ocean, a tirtha represents the moment where worldly life and higher consciousness intersect. Yoga Tirth is envisioned as such a space—a gentle, supportive passage where seekers can cross into a more conscious, balanced, and fulfilled way of being.

Our logo holds deep symbolic meaning, reflecting the path we walk together at Yoga Tirth:

The Three Eyes represent awareness, insight, and vision. Just as Lord Shiva’s third eye sees
beyond illusion, these eyes symbolize the expansion of inner vision—seeing not only the
world around us, but the world within.

The Lotus is a timeless symbol of purity, awakening, and transformation. It reminds us that
even amidst the mud of life’s challenges, beauty and wisdom can blossom.

Sattva

Clarity, harmony, and light

Rajas

Energy, passion, and movement

Tamas

Inertia, obscurity, and rest

These qualities exist in all of us. The path of yoga helps us understand, balance, and
transcend them—guiding us toward Sattva, and ultimately, toward liberation.

The teaching spirit at Yoga Tirth

Every teacher at Yoga Tirth shares a common purpose: To serve. To share. To walk with students on the yogic path, not ahead of them.

We honour the traditional guru-shishya parampara (teacher-student lineage), where knowledge is not simply taught, but transmitted through energy, presence, and mutual respect. While our teachers are well-versed in classical subjects like anatomy, asana, philosophy, and Ayurveda, what makes them truly special is their depth of experience and humility. We understand that each student comes with their own background, body, and life story. Our teachers create a space that is inclusive, respectful, and open —where growth happens not through pressure, but through patience. Whether you’re just starting your yoga journey or looking to deepen your practice, our teachers are here to support you—not to instruct you from a distance, but to walk beside you, hand in hand, step by step.

Why choose Yoga Tirth?

In a world full of yoga schools and quick certifications, we believe the true value of Yoga lies not in how much you learn, but how deeply you live it. At Yoga Tirth, our intention is not to impress, but to create a space for sincere learning, inner growth, and meaningful transformation. Rooted in the ancient traditions of yoga, our teachings are guided by timeless wisdom—yet we also embrace the clarity that modern science brings to the understanding of the body, breath, and mind.

Our approach is a harmonious blend of traditional yogic techniques and contemporary insight. We honour the lineage and depth of yogic practices while making them accessible to today’s world—balancing the spiritual essence of yoga with scientific understanding of anatomy, physiology, and mental health. Set in the calm and healing environment of Varkala, Kerala, Yoga Tirth is a place where students are invited to slow down, observe themselves deeply, and return to a more natural state of awareness and presence

Why Yoga Tirth stands apart

Our teachers are practitioners first. Their guidance comes not just from books, but from years of lived experience, inner work, and service.

We integrate modern anatomical knowledge and psychology with classical teachings, to help students understand the science behind the practice.

Our curriculum is rooted in authentic yogic traditions, yet flexible enough to meet each student where they are—physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

We focus on more than techniques—we nurture self-discipline, awareness, humility, and the ability to carry yoga off the mat into daily life. We offer a supportive, non-commercial space where yoga is taught with reverence, care, and clarity.

Yoga is not something to be mastered, but something to be remembered— through breath, stillness, movement, and mindful living.

What you will take back

A stay at Yoga Tirth is not just a temporary escape—it is a deep, transformative experience that stays with you long after you leave. You will return with a renewed sense of clarity, self-awareness, and inner calm. Through the daily rhythm of traditional practice, guided self-reflection, and quiet connection with nature, you’ll develop a deeper relationship with yourself and the world around you.

You’ll gain a solid foundation in authentic Yoga—not only in asana, but in breathwork, meditation, and philosophy—tools that you can integrate into your everyday life. The stillness and balance cultivated here become inner resources, helping you respond to life’s challenges with more grace and presence.

You’ll also carry home a deep respect for your own unique journey, free from comparison or pressure, grounded instead in acceptance and self-trust. Whether you’re beginning or continuing your path, you’ll leave feeling supported, inspired, and connected—not only to a timeless tradition, but to a more harmonious way of living

Step in, simply and sincerely

Whether you’re seeking rest, reflection, or deeper learning, Yoga Tirth offers a space where you can simply be—free from expectation, free from judgment. This is not a place where you have to get it right. It’s a place where you can begin again

Yogacharya Anil – My yoga journey

Anil’s Yoga journey began at the Shantikunj Ashram, Haridwar, at a very young age when he was inspired by the teachings of the Ashram. He left home as a teenager and joined the Ashram where he served in the Ashram as a Karma Yogi for 6 years. Initially, his desire to practice asanas (postures) was met with resistance, but his perseverance led him to a qualified guru who would guide him on this path. This initial hurdle instilled in Anil the importance of patience and dedication in his yoga practice. It was not a right or privilege to be bestowed, but a path earned through commitment and respect for the practice.

For Anil Yoga is more than just the physical postures that have become so synonymous with it in the West. It is a journey of self-discovery and transformation. It is about going beyond the body and realizing the true essence of the Self. Through his practice, Anil strives to connect with the deeper aspects of his being and cultivate a sense of oneness. Anil genuinely believes that having a qualified teacher to guide you on your yoga path is important. A true yoga teacher must possess not only knowledge but also experience. Deep study and dedication are crucial for guiding students effectively. Witnessing firsthand the challenges students face with short-term training courses solidified this belief for Anil. Yoga is a lifelong pursuit, and effective teachers understand this journey’s depth and complexities.

With 10 years of experience in teaching Yoga at multiple Teacher training schools, Anil brings his experience and knowledge to every class, constantly inspiring the Sadhaks (Yoga practitioners) to progress on their journey.

Manjula – My yoga journey

Manjula’s yoga journey was not a linear path. She has weathered the storms of life with unwavering courage and a curious spirit. Raised in a tumultuous environment with limited means, she learned early on the value of resilience and perseverance. Her innate curiosity led her on a journey of self-discovery. A natural thinker, she questioned conventional practices and rebelled against anything that did not resonate with her truth. In her pursuit of happiness, she explored various paths, seeking fulfillment beyond material comforts. The practice of Yoga began as an extension of her exploration of Indian traditional dance forms like Bharatanatyam and Kathak, and the martial art, Kalaripayattu. Drawn by its promise of inner peace and holistic well-being, she traveled to Kerala, South India where she delved deeper into Kalaripayattu, Yoga, and Ayurveda at different institutions.

Driven by a desire to explore yoga further, Manjula courageously left her successful six-year corporate career behind. This bold decision allowed her to fully immerse herself in the world of yoga. She continues to deepen her understanding by studying under learned Gurus and teachers.

Today, Manjula is a professional yoga teacher with expertise in Hatha yoga. Her profound understanding of yoga goes beyond just the physical postures (asanas). She incorporates yoga philosophy into her teaching, guiding students of all levels on their own yoga journey (sadhana). Her journey, marked by hardships and triumphs, has shaped her into a compassionate and grounded individual. Through her own experiences, Manjula hopes to guide and inspire people to live a life filled with happiness and peace.
